This was my first uphill race of the season at Saillonintze with it's route from Saillon up to Ovronnaz. In 2020 I did the autumn race from Ovronnaz to Cabane Rambert so I knew the area and this seemed like a good opportunity to test where my climbing legs were after focusing on speed and base training over the winter.
I ran a steady, controlled effort using heart rate to guide me at close to my lactate threshold. I was consistent throughout the run and by the end I was content that my legs coped with the steepness and continuous uphill running. However, I felt a little slow and heavy which is quite normal until I've had a chance to do more vertical gain as the trails open up in spring.

Getting started. |

Just after the start with the tower of Saillon in the background. |

Looking down towards Saillon and the valley below. |

Passarelle Farinet about halfway up. |

I think I may have been the first person following the instructions to walk over the Passarelle! |

Still going up. |

Ovronnaz and the finish just around the corner. |

Happy with that effort. |
It was fantastic to be back in the mountains and run a hard effort uphill again. Now I know where I'm at and what training I need to do leading into my goals in the summer (lots more D+ and climbing at intensity!).
